Two of McHenry County residents’ favorite festivals are just around the corner, and lovers of art and wine are going to be excited! Ring in summer by attending the third annual Spring Wine Walk, being held in conjunction with the Fine Arts Festival in downtown Richmond this Saturday, June 28.
Tickets for the Spring Wine Walk are $35 each, and attendees can enjoy sipping and strolling through 10 participating businesses in the downtown area. There will be three varieties of wine at each station, in addition to delicious snacks for sampling. Get ready for a day filled with family fun Saturday, May 3 at the Casting for Cures trout fishing event at Spring Grove Hatchery Park, hosted by Nicole Mendlik and the Cheri Amore Memorial. Proceeds raised will be donated to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund, a non-profit organization that supports research into the effective treatment and cure of childhood cancer and other related blood disorders. The event will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will have a variety of exciting activities for all ages, including trout fishing, fly fishing lessons, games, crafts, face painting, a petting zoo, raffles, a silent auction, trackless train rides and a princess meet and greet.
Come and celebrate the gift of life and honor the memory of Cheri Amore, an “exceptional and energetic young lady who passed away at the very young age of 17,” after battling leukemia for 14 years, according to the Casting for Cures website. Don’t miss the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition, part of more than 10 days of family fun at Winterfest at Lake Geneva. Residents of Bailey Estates and the Trails of Pheasant Ridge should stop by between Wednesday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Feb. 2 to see the amazing sculptures. Winners will be announced Saturday afternoon.
Winterfest this year will stretch through Saturday, Feb. 8 with plenty of activities for the whole family, including laser tag, a beach party, s’mores, a reindeer run and more.
The event is just 15 minutes from the Bailey Estates homes in Williams Bay, Wis. Additionally, The Trails of Pheasant Ridge is just a short drive up US Highway 12 to Lake Geneva.

Winter weather means that there will be plenty of ice and snow on the roads for the next several months. While the white powder may be fun for winter recreation near your Richmond, McHenry, Williams Bay or Poplar Grove real estate, it can pose a real threat to driving conditions.
Here are a few winter weather driving tips for staying safe traveling to and from your home:
- Decrease your speed and leave plenty of room to stop. You should allow at least three times more space between yourself and the car in front of you than you normally would.
- Don’t slam on the brakes; brake gently to avoid skidding.

The Trails of Dawson Creek
- Aldeen Park: Just a short drive away from Poplar Grove in Loves Park, this is a popular spot for snow sledding, which is allowed on the north side of the dam.
