Summer is here for McHenry County new homes residents, and it’s time to start the season off the right this Memorial Day weekend. McHenry County is packed full of events that are sure to make your holiday weekend a blast. From parades, to pools and parties you and your friends and family will be going all weekend long.
For those who are interested in the history of the day and honoring our fallen heroes, make your way over to the Crystal Lake American Legion Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 28. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and the route will head north on Williams and west on Woodstock Street, ending at Union Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the cemetery after the parade is over.
If your family wants to attend a parade, but have already made plans on Monday, then don’t sweat it. McHenry County is also hosting a parade on Saturday, May 26 in Huntley, Ill. It will start at the Municipal Complex at 11 a.m. and will conclude with a Memorial Day Celebration in honor of our veterans. This is an event the whole family is sure to enjoy. Read More→

Whether it is through participation or support, we have a local activity that is calling your name – the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team. You could join Roger Gerstad, president of Gerstad Builders, who is just one of many long time participants and supporters.
Proud to be four-time National Show Ski Champions, this water ski show team is part of what makes McHenry a great place to live. The team is currently in training for their new season and cannot wait to show off their skills Memorial Day Weekend with their first ski show of the year. It will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 4 p.m. at Center Beach in Wonder Lake, Ill.

Memorial Day is fast approaching in the United States. While it’s a great time to get out of your Poplar Grove homes to explore on your day off from work, it’s also a time to remember all the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to defend all the wonderful freedoms that we enjoy in America.
This day began in remembrance of the soldiers of the Civil War and then was extended to include those who served in all of the American’s wars. As you say a prayer, stand in silence, or lay a wreath or flag at a gravesite, do think about some of the historic battles that have shaped our nation. Read More→
