1950's Nostalgia in McHenry County

Now that spring has officially arrived and warmer weather is on the way, it is time to bring the family out for two of the best 1950’s nostalgia happenings in McHenry County.

On April 1 our famous Richmond Dog n Suds Drive-In restaurant opened for its 48th year. They’re located in the quaint town of Richmond, just minutes from the Richmond new homes at The Trails of Pheasant Ridge.

Dog n Suds’ beginnings date back to 1953 in Champaign, IL when two music teachers from the University of Illinois opened a hot dog and root beer stand. Dog n Suds growth was so phenomenal in the 1950’s that by the 1970’s it had grown to more than 600 restaurants in 38 states.

Dog n Suds is located a short distance from Gerstad Builders finest McHenry County real estate. When looking for Richmond new homes one need go no further than The Trails of Pheasant Ridge. This community has 32 lots, 16 of them occupied with various new homes. Presently, the two-story Robin model is for sale. Gerstad Builders, voted #1 builder in McHenry County, has many floor plans to accommodate the first-time buyer or empty-nester.

The second 1950’s nostalgia happening will be on May 6 when our famous McHenry Outdoor Theatre on Chapel Hill Road opens for the summer season. Be sure to bring the kids out for a tailgate party and movie. They will enjoy the experience while you reminisce about your youth.

The outdoor theatre is close to Gerstad Builder’s most sought after McHenry County real estate at Liberty Trails. The community is a half a mile west of Chapel Hill Road. Gerstad Builders is planning to build a new ranch floor plan. The Bailey plan is a 1,830 square foot ranch home priced under $250,000. This is the perfect time to sell your present home and move to a more affordable and smaller home management program. Liberty Trails is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends.
