Flying High in the Winter Sky at the 4th Annual Sky Circus on Ice

kitesDuring the winter months at Lake Delavan and Lake Geneva, visitors from around the world come to watch and participate in outdoor sports and events such as skiing and ice sculpting. But, the snow covered ground isn’t the only breathtaking views the area offers. Aesthetic beauty from above can also be seen during the 4th Annual Sky Circus on Ice.

The weekend spectacle on February 17 through 19, 2017 will feature exciting airborne performances by professional kite teams from across North America and expert snow sculpting and ice carving by top regional artists. Snow carving classes led by professional carvers, kite making workshops and a mix of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages will also take place at the event.  The grand launch will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday over Delavan Lake. Admission to the event is free, and there will be concessions, warming stations and entertainment.

In addition to the synchronized kite performances battling the winter winds over the lake, expert ice and snow carvers will be converging in downtown Delavan and along the shores of Lake Lawn Resort to show their talents. There will also be a blizzard run snow slide along the lakefront for attendees to slide down! The Lake Lawn trolley will be making frequent stops to downtown for guests to experience the numerous hands-on activities that will be taking place. An attractive feature of downtown Delavan is that despite the recent growth of the city, downtown is still a quaint town with cobblestone streets and antique stores.sky circus

Kite flying during winter is a cold pleasure and takes special skills and knowledge in order to have a successful flight. The wide open space of the lake and the chill of the winter wind are two advantages for the competitors, which is why Lake Delavan makes a perfect location for this event. Lake Lawn Resort is also considered a perfect weekend get-a-away during winter due to the amount of activities, whether it be indoor or outdoor.
