McHenry Outdoor Theater
Remember the drive-in movies? If you answered yes, then you know the memories that drift into your mind; and if you answered no, then you don’t know what you’re missing! McHenry is home to one of the last drive-ins in America. Less than a mile from Gerstad Builders’ Liberty Trails community and just 12 miles from the Richmond new homes at Pheasant Ridge, you and your family can slip into your most comfy clothes, grab a blanket and enjoy two movies from the comfort of your own car. Families can even bring their own treats which makes the evening out a little easier on the budget!
Most popular for families (probably in their pajamas), the audience ranges in age from kids to people in their 80s, depending on the movie. The owners of the McHenry Outdoor Theater, now in their fourth season as owners/managers, state that they have witnessed a resurgence in the popularity and nostalgia of a movie seen at an outdoor theater. Make sure to plan on being at the opening on May 6 for the showing of “Thor!â€
The theater was originally called the Skyline Drive-in and it was opened in the 1930s, just before the big boom for outdoor theaters after World War II. By the late 1950s there were 5,000 drive-ins across the country. Today, it’s estimated that fewer than 400 drive-ins are still in operation in America. And, we are lucky enough to have one of our very own here in the McHenry County.
Gerstad Builders’ new McHenry County real estate in Liberty Trails and Pheasant Ridge are two of our developments. Dawson Creek in Poplar Grove and Bailey Estates in Williams Bay, Wis. brings the total to four communities presently offering new construction of both ranch and two-story homes.
Our homes range in size from 1,300 to 3,300 square feet, with prices ranging from $170,000 to $315,000.
