If you are thinking that Spring doesn’t start until March 20, think again! The hottest time to sell your home in 2011 is now. According to real estate expert Ilyce Glink, frequent contributor to the Equifax Personal Finance Blog,  the spring real estate season actually starts in early January. So, if you are planning to sell your home in 2011 and hoping to buy a new Gerstad Builders home, the time to list your home is right after we ring in the New Year.

Glink’s recent Equifax post, “How to Sell Your Home in 2011,” gives pointers for selling your home. Her two main points are:

1. Find a real estate agent.  But this is not just any real estate agent. You will want to make sure they have a history of selling homes in  your price range in your neighborhood. This must also be an agent who will aggressively market and show your home.
2. Declutter your home.  Remove all the clutter, including out of season clothes in your closets and extra “stuff” sitting around on your kitchen and bathroom countertops. For things you want to keep but are taking up too much space – including extra furniture pieces, books or boxes of holiday decorations – you may want to rent a storage unit until you’re ready to move them into your new home.
